Annotations correct or expand details in the text on such matters as dates, locations, names, etc., such as an image from Harper's Weekly, 8 Apr. 1865, which shows Union soldiers raising an American flag on the old S.C. Statehouse, a structure that burned during Feb. 1865: "this is an impossible picture..." (p. 43); several references to Finley Park [then known as Sidney Park], including a photograph, "View of Sidney Park, 1905" (p. 247), with Meriwether's comment "But it was destroyed in 1900."
